Mission

The Yellowstone Historical Society was established in 1948. The purpose of the Society is to share the history of Yellowstone County and surrounding areas through programs and tours.

One of the objectives of YHS is to preserve stories of our region. The organization has been installing historic markers at sites since the 1950s. These include the battlefields of our nations past, trails our ancestors traveled as they discovered the West, and other points of interest.
